Pediatric Dentist – Caring for Our Youngest Patients

Paediatric dentistry requires not only knowledge and experience, but above all, patience and empathy. At the Impladent Clinic, we make sure that every child feels comfortable and safe in our office. We offer dental care for children of all ages—from their first tooth, through the period of tooth replacement, all the way to early adolescence.
Our goal is not only to provide effective treatment, but also to help children develop positive associations with the dentist. For us, the greatest reward is seeing the children’s sincere smiles at the end of their visit.

A Child's First Visit to the Dentist

The first orientation visit takes place in a fun atmosphere and is designed to help children get familiar with the dental office. It’s a stress-free way to start a child’s journey with the dentist and an opportunity for parents to get tips on oral hygiene and preventive care.

Dental Care for Children

Preventive treatments:

  • fluoridation – strengthens enamel and inhibits bacterial growth,
  • sealants – seal the grooves in the teeth and protect against cavities,
  • silver nitrate treatment – the impregnation of primary teeth with silver nitrate to prevent the development of tooth decay.

Treatment:

  • treatment of tooth decay – removal of infected tissue and restoration of the tooth,
  • root canal treatment for baby teeth – in cases where the pulp is affected by tooth decay,
  • Diagnosis and Treatment of Malocclusions – Use of Braces
  • orthodontic treatments tailored to the child’s age,
  • Extraction of baby teeth and permanent teeth—performed gently and safely,
  • Lip and tongue tie surgery – correction of conditions that interfere with speech, eating, and oral hygiene.

Dental Treatment for Children Under General Anaesthesia

For children with a severe fear of the dentist or who require extensive treatment, we offer paediatric dentistry under general anaesthesia. This is a safe solution that allows for comprehensive treatment of all teeth in a single procedure.
During treatment under general anaesthesia, a team of specialists—a pediatric dentist, anesthesiologist, and anesthesia nurses—monitors the child. Procedures are performed in an operating room that meets the highest standards.

Your most frequently asked questions

When should you visit a paediatric dentist for the first time, and what does an introductory visit involve?

The first visit to a paediatric dentist should take place after the first tooth erupts , but no later than around the child’s first birthday. This is the time for an introductory visit. It involves helping the child get comfortable with the dentist, the office, and the equipment (e.g., moving the dental chair up and down, counting teeth with a mirror). At this stage, dental treatment for children is rarely necessary. The dentist mainly talks with the parent about diet, hygiene, and tooth development. This is an investment in future stress-free, comfortable visits.

Does dental treatment hurt for children?

Modern paediatric dentistry strives to be pain-free. Local anesthesia is used (often first in the form of a flavored gel), and the atmosphere in the office is friendly. For root canal treatment in children or more complex procedures, anesthesia is standard practice. Fear often stems from a lack of knowledge, which is why an introductory visit is important.

Is it really necessary to treat baby teeth?

Yes, it is absolutely necessary. Tooth decay in baby teeth can lead to severe pain, infection, and difficulty eating—and, most importantly, it can damage the buds of the permanent teeth. Untreated baby teeth can also lead to their premature loss, resulting in malocclusion and problems with proper speech.

Is it necessary to apply dental sealants to children's teeth?

No, it is not mandatory, but it is highly recommended. Sealants protect the grooves of molars—the areas most vulnerable to cavities. In children who have naturally deep grooves, sealants significantly reduce the risk of needing treatment for cavities.

How often should children undergo dental fluoridation at the dentist's office?

The frequency depends on the child’s individual risk of tooth decay. Typically, a pediatric dentist recommends this treatment every 3–6 months. Regular fluoride treatment for children, combined with proper oral hygiene at home, is the foundation of preventive care.

What should you do if your child is terrified of the pediatric dentist?

It’s important not to force your child. Start with introductory visits and look for a paediatric dentist with a patient-centered approach. You may want to consider inhalation sedation (laughing gas) or medication-based sedation, and as a last resort, dental treatment under general anaesthesia, to avoid negative associations and ensure a comfortable dental experience for your child.

Is dental treatment under general anaesthesia safe for young children?

Yes. It is a safe procedure performed under the close supervision of anesthesiologist. Before the procedure begins, the pediatric dentist and the anesthesiologist assess the child’s health. General anaesthesia allows for complex dental procedures (such as simultaneous root canal treatment and multiple cavity fillings) to be performed in a comfortable setting and without causing distress to the patient.
