Consultations are held by Dr. Jakub Piątkowski at the POLMED facility located at 82 Grunwaldzka Street in Gdańsk (Manhattan Shopping Center, 2nd floor).
Appointments are available on Mondays and Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. You can conveniently book an appointment online through the znanylekarz.pl website.
PREPARATION FOR ENT PROCEDURES
A pre-treatment evaluation is required before each procedure, during which a detailed treatment plan is established.
Pre-procedure recommendations:
- Anticoagulants
One week before the procedure, you should stop taking (after consulting with your doctor) anticoagulants, such as aspirin. - Laboratory Tests Blood tests are required; the doctor will determine which ones are needed during the initial consultation.
- Before the procedure
On the day of the procedure, the patient should fast (no food or drink for at least 8 hours before the procedure).

Tonsil Procedures
Tonsil Procedures Adenotomy – removal of the pharyngeal tonsil (also known as the third tonsil). An enlarged pharyngeal tonsil causes breathing and hearing problems as well as frequent infections, especially in children. The procedure eliminates the source of the problem and improves the quality of daily life.
Tonsillotomy – partial removal of the palatine tonsils. It reduces their size while preserving some of their immune functions. Recommended for children and adults with recurrent infections, breathing difficulties, and sleep problems.
Tonsillectomy – complete removal of the palatine tonsils. The procedure is performed in cases of recurrent tonsillitis, enlargement that impedes breathing, and complications. The tonsils are removed entirely, which eliminates the risk of them regrowing.
Tonsil Cryolysis – reduction of tonsillar crypts, where food debris and bacteria accumulate. The procedure eliminates bad breath, tonsil stones, and chronic inflammation.
Treatment of Snoring and Sleep Apnea
Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (U3P) is one of the most commonly performed surgical procedures in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). Its goal is to reduce the collapse of the throat during sleep, widen the airway, and reduce the vibration of the tissues responsible for snoring. During the procedure, the palatine tonsils are removed, the uvula is shortened, and the soft palate and throat are reconstructed. The result is improved nighttime breathing, reduced apnea symptoms, and the elimination of snoring.
Tongue Base Coblation is a modern, minimally invasive surgical procedure used to treat obstructive sleep apnea and snoring caused by tissue enlargement at the base of the tongue. The procedure involves reducing excess tissue using low-temperature plasma technology. This allows for the precise removal of excess tissue with minimal damage to surrounding structures, which reduces the risk of complications and speeds up the recovery process.
DISE (Drug-Induced Sleep Endoscopy) is an endoscopic examination of the upper airways performed while the patient is in a pharmacologically induced state of sleep. It is a highly valuable diagnostic method for identifying obstructive sleep apnea and the causes of snoring. DISE allows for the precise determination of the location and mechanism of airway collapse, which is crucial for planning further surgical or conservative treatment.
Soft palate and uvula surgery (uvulopalatoplasty) is a surgical procedure performed on patients with mild obstructive sleep apnea and those with severe snoring. The procedure involves stiffening and lifting the soft palate, which reduces its vibrations during sleep. The use of modern methods, such as high-frequency radio waves, helps minimize tissue damage, reduce the risk of complications, and shorten healing time.
Nose and Sinus Procedures
Septoplasty is a surgical procedure to correct a deviated nasal septum. A deviated septum often leads to difficulty breathing through the nose, recurrent sinus infections, snoring, or obstructive sleep apnea. The surgery restores normal nasal airflow, which improves the quality of daily life and sleep.
Rhinoseptoplasty (correction of the nasal septum and the shape of the nose) is a surgical procedure that combines straightening a deviated septum (septoplasty) with correction of the nose’s shape (rhinoplasty). This makes it possible to simultaneously restore normal breathing and improve the appearance of the nose, providing the patient with comprehensive health and aesthetic benefits.
Nasal Valve Surgery is a surgical procedure that improves nasal airflow by correcting the nasal valve—the narrowest part of the nasal cavity, which regulates airflow. Narrowing, deformation, or collapse of the nasal valve leads to chronic breathing difficulties, a feeling of nasal congestion, sleep problems, or reduced exercise tolerance. The procedure removes the cause of these symptoms, improving the patient’s quality of life.
Conchoplasty (nasal turbinate reduction) is a procedure performed to reduce the size of enlarged turbinates, which can cause a chronic runny nose, nasal congestion, and difficulty breathing. The procedure improves nasal patency and breathing comfort, and when performed using modern methods—such as radiofrequency or electrocoagulation—it is minimally invasive and safe.
FESS – Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery is a modern, minimally invasive method for treating chronic sinusitis. The procedure, performed using an endoscope, allows for the removal of pathological changes and anatomical abnormalities within the sinuses, restoring their proper ventilation and drainage. It is used in cases where conservative treatment has not been effective.
Ear Treatments
Microotoscopy with ear drainage (paracentesis with placement of a ventilation tube) is a surgical procedure used to treat middle ear conditions, such as chronic suppurative otitis media or recurrent infections. The procedure involves making a small incision in the eardrum and inserting a ventilation tube, which allows for proper ventilation and prevents fluid buildup in the ear. Microotoscopy is often combined with an adenotomy or tonsilloadenotomy, as an enlarged pharyngeal tonsil can block the opening of the Eustachian tube and prevent the ear from functioning properly. This procedure improves hearing and reduces the risk of infection and pain.
Removal of ear tubes is a short, minimally invasive procedure most often performed under general anaesthesia. It is performed mainly on children, but in certain cases also on adults. It involves removing ventilation tubes from the eardrum to allow it to heal on its own. This restores the ear’s natural function and eliminates the source of chronic symptoms.
Excision of a preauricular fistula is a surgical procedure to remove a congenital developmental anomaly in the form of a small opening in the skin in the preauricular region. The fistula may be asymptomatic, but it often leads to recurrent infections, inflammation, and the discharge of purulent or serous fluid. Surgical removal of the fistula permanently resolves the problem, improving the patient’s quality of life and eliminating the risk of complications.
Procedures involving the neck and salivary glands
Neck Cyst Excision is a procedure used to treat pathological lesions in the soft tissues of the neck. Cysts can have various causes—congenital, acquired, inflammatory, or neoplastic—and can occur in different locations and sizes. They are often detected incidentally during a physical examination or imaging study. Their removal helps prevent complications and clearly determine the nature of the lesion.
Salivary Gland Removal is a surgical procedure involving the removal of a diseased salivary gland. It may involve one of the major salivary glands—the parotid, submandibular, or sublingual glands—as well as smaller salivary glands. Indications for surgery include, among others, inflammatory, cystic, or neoplastic lesions. Salivary gland removal is performed to improve the patient’s health and eliminate the source of the disease.
Neck Tumor Excision is a procedure performed in cases of neoplastic lesions or other pathologies in the neck. The procedure serves both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes—it allows for an unambiguous histopathological assessment of the tumor and forms the basis for further treatment.
