A disease of modern society
Teeth grinding, or bruxism, is a common problem classified as a lifestyle-related disorder. This condition can lead to serious consequences—ranging from excessive enamel wear, to cracks and tooth sensitivity, to headaches, neck pain, and jaw pain. The most common causes of bruxism are stress, an improper bite, or muscle tension, which lead to unconscious clenching and grinding of the teeth—especially at night.
Causes of Bruxism
An abnormal, often forced position of the mandibular heads within the temporomandibular joints (known as a lack of central relation).
Stress and Emotional Tension
Malocclusions
Occlusal parafunctions
Neurological Disorders
Side Effects of Medications

Treatment of Bruxism
Treatment of bruxism at the Impladent in Gdańsk is based on comprehensive diagnostics and collaboration among specialists from various fields of dentistry. First, we determine the so-called central mandibular relationship using specialized deprogramming devices (relaxation splints, bioorthoses) that relieve muscle tension and eliminate harmful habits.
Depending on the source of the problem, the following stages of therapy are implemented:
- orthodontic and prosthetic treatment to restore teeth,
- implant dentistry for missing teeth,
- Orthodontic treatment to establish CR (correct central relation of the mandible)
- Braces depending on the type of therapy: Koisa, Mago, Bioortezy
- physical therapy and physiotherapy to relax the muscles,
- botulinum toxin as an adjunctive treatment in certain cases (to reduce muscle tone)
- collaboration with a neurologist to provide pharmacological support for treatment
Thanks to this approach, it is possible not only to halt tooth decay but also to restore proper joint function and quality of life.
